Core Philosophy
As an educator, I believe that the information my students acquire must translate into real-world scenarios. As a result, my educational philosophy has roots in existentialism, progressivism, and constructivism. I am a firm believer that without purpose, people’s desire to learn decreases. Therefore, learning best occurs when students are actively involved in a process of meaning and relevant knowledge construction rather than passively receiving information.
In addition, students need to acquire this knowledge in a healthy learning environment. I feel this occurs when the educator cultivates respect, collaboration, and intrinsic motivation. I intend to utilize the abundance of tools I have acquired to ensure my students are successful in the classroom and beyond. This is the literature that helped develop this philosophy.
